However, I've recently thought of some ways to keep myself motivated to blog. So, here are a few thoughts to motivate yourself to blog:
- Learning - If you are a competent individual surviving in today's workforce, you are most likely learning new things on a regular basis. One of the most effective ways to learn, and retain what you learn, is what blogger Scott H Young refers to as the Feynman Technique. Simply put, the Feynman Technique is the ability to learn something well enough that you are able to explain it to others. Explaining material to others strengthens your knowledge and confidence in the material. And, it enables you to quickly pinpoint exactly which concepts you may still not fully understand. Blogging is an excellent way to use the Feynman Technique to strengthen your knowledge of the material you're learning.
- Sharing - The beauty of the Internet is based on the concept of freely available knowledge. Anything you could ever dream of learning about is only a short Google or Wikipedia search away. Sharing your knowledge, thoughts, and ideas through blogging is a wonderful way to keep the idea of freely accessible knowledge alive and well. You never know how your words may benefit the lives of others.
- Building a Portfolio - Weather you're employed or self-employed, building a portfolio is an excellent way to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to your career and earning potential. Writing about topics your potential clients or employers find valuable can really give you a real career boost.
- Networking - In time, your blog may attract readers. Either through search engine indexing or through sharing your posts on social networks. As your writing abilities improve, and as you post more articles, more people will begin to read your blog and maybe even visit your blog regularly. This can become an invaluable networking tool, especially if you take the time to listen to your readers and interact with them. In due time, you may build up a reputation and build relationships with your readers or other bloggers.
- Writing Ability - Writing several paragraphs on one topic doesn't come easy, at least it does't for me. Nor am I strong in proper English (even though I'm an American). Practicing writing is really the only way to improve. In time, your writing and language abilities will improve and you'll find it much easier to express yourself.
